I minister to Ukrainian deaf children and their parents, and I would like to learn ASL as well ( hope in the future to have deaf Americans helping at Christian camps, to share work experiences and to fellowship) and get certificate. What course can you recommend me? Thanks!

I’m profoundly hard of hearing, and my health care provider has said it is time for me to learn sign. I want to not just learn basic survival signing, but also how to sign the gospel, hymns, even theological concepts for my extremely well-educated parish of elders, most of whom are also losing their hearing (moderate to profound). Do you have any suggestions?

ASLU goes deeper into linguistics, sign origins, and variations. “Sign It ASL” is more entertaining with comedy and skits, showcases a lot of different people from the Deaf community, and tracks progress. Both programs are great for teens and adults.

It’s a go-to resource for learning ASL. The teacher, Dr. Bill, does a great job explaining nuances of the language.

American Sign Language Made Easy” (www.signitasl.com). It’s self-paced, and the instructors are fabulous. Many of them are Deaf themselves and are teachers, comedians, Broadway stars, etc. There’s a lot of comedy and fun sketches to keep the classes interesting. It’s also available for free to parents of deaf and hard-of-hearing babies through the http://www.mydeafchild.org site.

We had a mother- daughter come in. Both were deaf, is there a course for medical people? Thank you .

Hi Iatoia, I would personally recommend any of the SkillShare classes. They are very easy to follow and cover all the basic gestures and words.
