After running this website about online education and being a WordPress user myself, one question I am always being asked is, “is WordPress a skill?”.

So to get to the bottom of this, I have researched various job boards, spoken to HR managers, and also analyzed some interesting trends to get an insight into this question.

Also, if you are looking to get some extra insight on whether or not to add WordPress to your resume or CV, you’re also in the right place!

Is WordPress a Skill?

Yes, WordPress is a highly in-demand skill in 2024 and has seen a yearly growth of 17%. Currently, WordPress skills are sought after in web design, virtual assistant, freelancer, brand management, UI, and social media marketing job positions.

For more of an insight, I researched various job boards such as Seek, Indeed, Monster, Craigslist, and CareerBuilder to see if businesses and companies are seeking out employees with experience in WordPress.

Below is a screenshot from these job boards where you can see companies actively seeking workers who have WordPress skills.

To my surprise, I came across 1,000s of job postings just like these where a wide range of employers are seeking staff proficient in WordPress.

Should I Add WordPress To My Resume or CV?

After analyzing various job boards in the UK, US, and Australia, it seems that it would be extremely beneficial to add any WordPress skills or experience to your resume or CV.

In some instances, it may also be worthwhile adding in WordPress specific skills such as HTML, theme development, maintaining WordPress websites, publishing content on WordPress, plugin development, and website builders like Divi and Elementor.

What Jobs Can You Get With WordPress Skills?

As WordPress is used by millions of businesses around the world, there is a wide scope of jobs available to those who have experience in WordPress.

While many of these positions are for more advanced job titles such as web developers, there are still some entry-level positions too! Below are just some of the many jobs that have WordPress as a prerequisite or companion skill.

How To Boost Your WordPress Skills?

When it comes to increasing your WordPress skills, I have found there are two main ways on how to do this.

The first is by undertaking an online course that will teach you everything you need to know from publishing posts, pages, adding media, contact forms, setting menus, permalinks, SEO, plugins, themes, and tons more!

The second way, which is a follow on from the first method, is to learn by doing. I myself have taken a few different WordPress courses, however, where I have really learned my skills is by playing around with WordPress, website builders, plugins, and also making mistakes along the way.

So if you truly want to bolster your WordPress skills, don’t be scared to create your own website and experiment with the platform!

What Is WordPress?

In a nutshell, WordPress is a CMS (Content Management System), which is just a fancy way of saying website builder. Unlike other website builders out there, WordPress is open-sourced and free (just like Wikipedia), which has contributed to it now being the most loved and widely used website platform in the globe.

To get to the bottom of this, I have researched various job boards to see if Canva is an in-demand skill, and whether or not you should add it to your resume.
